DART to end all services in Grimes beginning June 2025

DART will end all services in the City of Grimes beginning June 2025, due to the city’s decision to withdraw from DART. DART will also add a trip on Route 93 and remove designated school trips on certain local routes while Des Moines Public Schools students are on summer break.  

Below is a summary of the upcoming service change. 

 

Express Route 93 - NW 86th

Route 93 will no longer travel in Grimes beginning Monday, June 16. All trips will start (inbound) and end (outbound) at the intersection of Crescent Chase and NW 62nd Avenue in the City of Johnston.  

Also beginning June 16, a new Route 93 outbound trip will leave downtown Des Moines (7th and Locust) at 6:15 a.m., and arrive at Crescent Chase at 6:41 a.m. Other Route 93 trips will have minor time changes.

Please note that the Walmart in Grimes and The Bridge in Johnston will no longer serve as DART Park & Ride locations after June 13. Express Route 93 riders can park a car for free in the DART Park & Ride lot at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale (8301 NW Aurora Avenue).  

 

Paratransit 

Paratransit trips that start or end in Grimes will no longer be offered beginning Tuesday, July 1. 

The final day of Paratransit service in Grimes will be Monday, June 30.  

DART Paratransit customers who live in Grimes should have received information from Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) about booking transportation once DART service ends.

Grimes On Call 

Grimes On Call service will end on Monday, June 30. This service will no longer provide trips by request between Grimes and other northwestern communities of Clive, Johnston, Urbandale and the northern part of West Des Moines. 

 

School Service 

Beginning June 16, DART will remove designated school trips on certain local routes while Des Moines Public Schools students are on summer break. Trips will be restored in August to serve DMPS students and staff for the 2025-2026 academic year.
